Identity

Part 1
Your Identity determines WHO you are, how you SEE yourself, and how you ACT in
the world. It has been an ongoing process that has shaped you into who you are
today.

Connect group:
● Choose ONE NIGHT a week to hold your connect group.
● Ask each member of your connect group to bring their Bible.
● If you want, you can also take communion together.

WELCOME
Ice breaker:
Choose one of the following topics and talk about it:
a) If you could make yourself, what is one thing you would make differently and why?
b) Have you ever met someone who looks like you or acts the same as you do (like a
doppelganger)?
Prayer: Open with prayer.

WORD

Read:
Our Core Text for Today:
Isa 64:8
You are our father, O LORD; we are the clay, and you have made us; we are all the
work of your hands.
Jer 18:2
Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will speak to you.
Jer 18:4
… the thing he was making from the clay, FAILED…
… so he made something DIFFERENT as he pleased.
Jer 18:11
Thus says the LORD…Repent, everyone, of your evil ways. Make your lives
(Identity) and your DEEDS straight.

Talk in your Connect Group about the following:
God sends Jeremiah to the potter. “Go to the potter, and there I will speak to you,”
God told Jeremiah. Here at the potter’s house, God spoke to Jeremiah. God showed
him how our lives are molded. Just as the clay in the potter’s hands, so our lives are
clay in God’s hands.

Our lives are not perfect. Jeremiah sees the “clay fail” in the potter’s hands. God
shows Jeremiah that the same is true with our lives. Sometimes we experience
failures. Just as the potter is not finished with the clay that has failed, God is not
finished with us when we find ourselves in times of failure. Just as the potter molds
the clay into something new, so God does with our lives. We do not need to become
discouraged in times of failure. God is hard at work in these times.

Reread today’s texts and talk about them:
• How has God shaped your life in a time of failure?
• Why is failure a gain for a child of God?

WORSHIP
Make time to worship God today. Use the playlist on our Word and Life
website under Connect Groups. Or bring your own worship songs.

WORKS
Now enjoy Communion together as a Connect Group:
Love for God, Love for People

Now, as a Connection Group, spend just 5 minutes in silence, and each member should answer the questions below on their own.

Create a peaceful atmosphere and allow the Lord to speak to each one individually.
• Ask the Lord to show you who you should pray for this week, someone
who may be going through a difficult or formative time.
• Look at the week ahead. How can you encourage someone who’s going
through a difficult time or a formative time
