Week 4: 26 September-2 October 2021

Bjorn Uys

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

1. Pray: Open with prayer

2. Read:

  • Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) For we are His WORKMANSHIP, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared BEFOREHAND that we should walk in them.
  • Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
  • Luke 15:17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!
  • Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
  • Luke 15:18-19 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.
  • Ephesians 4:22-24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self … to be made new … and to put on the new self, created to be like God …
  • Luke 15:21 (TPT) Then the son said, ‘Father, I was wrong. I have sinned against you. I could never deserve to be called your son. Just let me be—’ The father interrupted and said, ‘Son, you’re home now!’
  • Romans 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—

4. Discussion: Why do we fear?

  1. What is the role that forgiveness plays in the fear of losing control?
  2. Why did the son decide to return home?
  3. Why did the Father forgive the son?

Worship –

Spend time in God’s presence through Praise and Worship.

Works for this week

Think about the following:

  1. Before giving into the fear of losing control, think about God’s forgiveness for you?
  2. Remember that because God forgives us we should also forgive.
  3. Consider every failure as a learning opportunity.
  4. Talk to God about your fear of losing control.
